FEMUR
The femur (thigh bone) is commonly injured in motor vehicle accidents. In South Africa, this is one of the fractures I have to manage frequently. For a midshaft fracture the go-to treatment is an intramedullary nail. Usually this is very successful, but non-union or delayed union, infection, deep venous thrombosis etc. can complicate the picture.
